LandQuest Ventures environmental staff conducted several ecological investigations along a five-mile stretch of the Little Weikva Canal and Lake Lawne located in north-central Orlando, Florida. Five (5) significant jurisdictional systems are noted throughout the study area most notably on the east and west side of John Young Parkway on both ends of the Little Weikva Canal and in Lawne Lake totally 170.75 acres. In addition, three (3) freshwater ponds (PUBHx) were also evaluated totally 7.67 acres adjacent to the canal.

Lawne Lake, approximately 123.30 acres, is classified as a lacustrine limnetic subsystem unconsolidated bottom permanently flooded (L1UBH) feature. During the evaluation, three (3) habitat types were observed (i.e. woodland, aquatic, and scrub-shrub). Extensive canopy in some areas provides shelter and nesting sites for birds. Both evergreen and deciduous trees are noted all along the canal corridor. In Lawne Lake, herons, ducks, kingfishers, and other various shorebirds are present. Thickets, hedgerows, and areas with dense shrubbery were noted along the canal west of John Young Parkway.
